Narva's city center will gain a new Baroque structure, this one a temporary one made of snow.

A three-day cooperative push to build a huge snow fort is being held in the square in front of the Narva College starting tomorrow.

The snow fort will be opened on February 17, which is also the last day before Lent.

The theme is "My Narva," and the instructions are to build a fantasia of Baroque Narva where people can go inside and go down slides. (Sliding down hills for good luck during Shrovetide is a tradition in Estonia. Beautiful Baroque architecture in Narva is another, but unfortunately they were destroyed during the war.)

There will also be a snow sculpture competition. In this part of the event, teams will compete against each other for a trip to Sweden.

The Viru Infantry Battalion and the US Army's 2nd Cavalry Regiment will take part in building the snow fort. Others taking part will be from the Narva Estonian Gymnasium, the University of Tartu's Narva College, the Narva and Kiviõli Art School and the Narva Museum.

If you're looking for similar Mardi Gras fun In Tallinn, a ship made of snow will go up in Männipark, a park in Mustamäe district. Other Baltic Sea-themed objects made of snow will also be created. That snow park opens on Feb. 17 at 16:00.
