Viru Hotel Documentary to Be Screened
"Viru. Embassy of Freedom," a documentary film by Margit Kilumets, will be shown in Estonian cinemas beginning Friday.
The movie looks at the history of the Viru Hotel, located in the center of Tallinn, and its connections with politics, prostitution and the KGB, a press release from the Estonian Film Institute said.
Interviewees include public figures such as Sofi Oksanen, Maimu Berg, Eva Lille, Kuno Plaan and others.
"The film also shows plenty of archival footage, which has a nostalgic effect, at times, and a completely comical one at others. The interviews are full of humanity - they are interesting, tragic, funny, absurd retrospections of our common history," the press release said.
"The first interview seen by the Estonian audience is with the founder of the hotel, Finnish businessman Mikko Repo. Unfortunately this interview was also his last public appearance as he died at the end of 2012."
