ERR's 2012 Musician of the Year Is Paavo Järvi
The music editors at Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) picked conductor Paavo Järvi as Musician of the Year 2012, citing his work in furthering music in Estonia and the high standard of his concerts.
The award will be presented to Järvi at a ceremony in Tallinn on January 1 – an event broadcast live on ERR radio and streamed on the website.
Järvi, who will turn 50 on Sunday, is in his third season as music director at the Orchestre de Paris. He oversees and is the art director for the Järvi Summer Festival and Academy, which seeks to bring Estonian musicians who ply their trade abroad to perform in Estonia.
A host of tribute radio and television shows will be on the air around the New Year's holiday, including a profile on the conductor on Klassikaraadio this Sunday at 9:05. ETV will show Järvi's summer festival concert at 11:35 on the same day.
The ERR music editors' Musician of the Year prize will be awarded for the 31st time, with past winners including musicians Ivo Linna (2009), Tõnis Mägi (1997) and composer Erkki-Sven Tüür (1996).
