Opera troupes from Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi, as well as world-famous bass Paata Burchuladze, will be the international highlights of this year's Saaremaa Opera Days.

The event, taking place on the island of Saaremaa from July 21-28, began yesterday with concerts in eight churches and an outdoor gala in Kuressaare marking the city's 450th anniversary, ETV reported.

The works in the program include "Attila," "Rigoletto," "Lucia di Lammermoor" and "Madame Butterfly." Soloists from Estonia include Koit Soasepp, Aare Saal and Urmas Põldma.

Other performers include the Saaremaa men's choir SÜM, the Estonian National Male Choir, and the Pärnu City Orchestra, as well as conductors Giorgi Jordania, Eri Klas and Jüri Alperten.
