Tallinn Airport Plans Installation of Self-Service Passport Control System
Citizens of EU member states holding a biometric passport and traveling in the Schengen area will soon have the option of using passenger-operated passport control checkpoints upon arrival to or departure from the Tallinn Airport.
The self-service passport system will use facial and fingerprint recognition scanners for identification, reported Eesti Päevaleht.
The plan is to have the devices up and running by the beginning of 2013, according to Vello Küla, senior specialist at the border control department of the Police and Border Guard Board.
Currently, the agency is preparing procurement documents and should soon be announcing an international tender.
Similar machines are used at the Vantaa Airport in Finland and the Madrid-Barajas Airport.
