German mobile bank N26 expanding to Estonia
Berlin-based banking startup N26 is expanding to an additional nine countries in Europe, including Estonia.
The banking company, previously known as Number26, now offers accounts in 17 countries across Europe.
N26 announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out its service in Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Slovenia.
Like Atom Bank in Britain or GoBank in the United States, N26 eschews brick-and-mortar branch banking in favor of smartphone-based services.
The bank is already active in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland and Slovakia. Customer sign-ups in France are currently limited but are expected to be fully open again by February.
N26 acquired a banking license in July and claims 200,000 customers in eight markets so far. The bank says it aims to "serve all Europeans within the next few years."
