The Estonian subsidiary of international intercity bus operator Lux Express announced that it will add a total of 78 additional departures per week on its popular Tallinn-Tartu and Tallinn-Pärnu routes beginning August 1 due to high summer demand as well as the planned exit of competitor Superbus from Estonia.

According to a company press release, the additional departures will provide a total of 4,314 additional seats per week on its two most popular lines.

According to Chairman of the Board Hannes Sarapuu, late summer traditionally sees a spike in the number of bus travelers, and so the company plans to meet demand by adding additional buses to departure times in high demand.

"We feel responsible for the welfare of the entire bus market and we do not want an unfulfilled gap to remain in the market due to the unexpected departure of a market player," said Sarapuu, noting that their company had spent years convincing travelers to choose bus travel over cars.

The extra departures, of which 50 are planned for its Tallinn-Tartu route and 28 are planned for its Tallinn-Pärnu route, are scheduled to last through the month of August, and if enough demand exists, the bus company is prepared to extend their availability into September as well.

Citing administrative decisions, discount bus company Superbus announced on Friday that it would have to suspend operations in Estonia after July 31, 2016.
