Future vehicle registration fees likely to cost 2.50€ per kilowatt
According to ERR information, the new government coalition plans on implementing a vehicle registration fee which for most people will mean a cost of 2.50 euros per kilowatt.
Once the law goes into effect, vehicle owners will have to pay a one-time registration fee upon the vehicle's purchase of 2.50 euros per kilowatt if the vehicle's engine power does not exceed 130 kilowatts, or 176.8 horsepower.
Vehicles with engine power exceeding 130 kilowatts will be taxed at a rate of 7.50 euros per additional kilowatt, while vehicles with engine power exceeding 200 kilowatts, or 268 horsepower, will cost 12.50 euros per kilowatt.
The registration fee must be paid upon the initial registration of both new and used cars.
The new law is expected to go into effect beginning in 2018. It is worth noting, however, that current figures represent initial plans and are subject to change.
