Elron considering denser schedule on Tallinn-Narva line (3)
There are currently three trains a day from Tallinn to Narva. A fourth connection takes passengers as far as Rakvere. While Narva would like the operator to add more connections to its schedule, Rakvere is hoping for changes as well.
According to ERR’s TV news, representatives of Ida-Viru County met with train operator Elron and expressed hope that the fourth connection east that currently ends in Rakvere be extended to Narva as well.
“This would certainly be necessary and reasonable in the short-term, and we can see ourselves that there is demand for an additional train from Tallinn to Narva,” Elron CEO Andrus Ossip said on Tuesday.
Rakvere deputy mayor Rainer Miltop said that connections for people to commute to Tallinn in the morning were “pretty good”, but that the way back was difficult. “You either have to leave work very early, or then you have to be in Tallinn for a few hours before you can get on the train. This means very long work days for people.”
The city would also like to see the first connection bring people from Tallinn to Rakvere earlier than 10:10 a.m. “It isn’t sensible to expect employers to agree to such capriciousness, that employees make it to work at half past ten instead of eight o’clock,” Miltop added.
