New car sales in Estonia continue to increase in July
The number of new cars sold in Estonia has been greater during each month of 2016 so far than during the corresponding month last year, with July seeing the sale of 1,924 new cars, a 3.4 percent increase over the same month last year.
During the first seven months of the year, a total of 13,678 new cars were sold in Estonia, an 11 percent increase on the same period last year, the Association of Estonian Car Dealers and Service Companies (AMTEL) said.
In July, smaller medium cars were the best-selling segment, making up 30.6 percent of all cars sold. Runners-up were the medium car and medium-sized SUV categories. During the month, a total of 81 cars were exported from Estonia.
The most popular makes of car were Toyota, with 304 new cars sold, followed by Skoda and Volkswagen, with respectively 221 and 177 units sold. The same three makes made up the top three in seven-month sales as well.
In July, the top three models of new cars sold in Estonia were the Skoda Octavia, with 132 units sold, Toyota Auris with 88 and Toyota Avensis with 84 units sold.
Sales of utility vehicles decreased 2.1 percent year-on-year to 365 units in July 2016. The list of makes in that segment were topped by Citroen with 66 units sold, followed by Peugeot with 61 and Volkswagen with 46 units sold. Truck sales were led by Scania and Volvo with 22 and 19 units respectively.
During the first seven moths of the year, the utility vehicles market increased by 10.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
