Estonian consumer prices grow 1% on year in November
In November 2016, the Estonian consumer price index increased by 0.1 percent compared to October 2016 but one percent compared to November of last year.
Goods were 1.2 percent and services 0.8 percent more expensive last month, while regulated prices of goods and services had risen by 3.1 percent and non-regulated prices by 0.5 percent compared to the same month a year prior, Statistics Estonia reported on Wednesday.
Compared to November 2015, the consumer price index was influenced the most by a 7.3-percent increase in the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, as alcoholic beverages were 6.6 percent and tobacco 9.1 percent more expensive. More expensive motor fuel likewise had a bigger impact on the index: compared to last year, diesel was 3.9 percent and gas 3.8 percent more expensive.
Compared to prices from November of last year, among food products, those of fruit, fresh fish and sugar increased the most — by 27, 22 and 15 percent, respectively.
Compared to October, changes in the consumer price index were most influenced by a 1.2-percent increase in food prices, of which close to a third was contributed by 1.9 percent more expensive milk, dairy products and eggs, and more than one fifth by 2.9 percent more expensive vegetables. Transport also had a bigger impact on the index as plane tickets bought for November were 17 percent cheaper than one month prior.
