Ferry Leiger expected to reach Estonia this weekend
Leiger, the first of the four brand new ferries ordered by TS Laevad, the ferry-operating subsidiary of the Estonian state-owned Port of Tallinn, is expected to reach Estonia this weekend.
The Leiger, built at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey and handed over to TS Laevad in November, passed through Germany's Kiel Canal on Thursday morning before continuing on its journey toward Estonia.
Sirle Arro, chief of marketing and communication at Port of Tallinn, told BNS that the Leiger is expected to reach Estonia this weekend, but noted that the Baltic Sea is forecasted to experience difficult weather conditions which may slow down the ferry's progress.
"Hopefully the Leiger will enter into service by Christmas," she said.
According to Arro, the company also hopes that the Tõll, built at Remontowa Shipyard in Poland, will reach Estonia before Christmas as well. If this is the case, the Tõll would enter into service at the beginning of January.
The Leiger began its journey from Sefine Shipyard on Nov. 5.
