During the 2016 cruise season, which drew to a close on Monday, 68 cruise ships called on Tallinn 271 times, bringing a total of 474,704 tourists to the Estonian capital, preliminary figures released by the Port of Tallinn showed.

Tallinn logged a total of 271 cruise ship visits carrying 474,704 visitors during the 2016 season, the state-owned port operator said.

This year's cruise season kicked off on May 4 with the berthing of the MSC Musica and ended with the arrival of the AIDAmar at Tallinn's Old City Harbour on Monday. The Estonian capital was visited by 68 different cruise ships in all.

Last year, Tallinn was called on by cruise ships 280 times, with a total of 500,000 tourists visiting the northernmost Baltic capital during the cruise season.

Port of Tallinn Marketing and Communication Director Sirle Arro stated that this year's cruise season was satisfactory. "The ended cruise season brought in practically as many tourists as last year to get acquainted with Tallinn and we expect the number of cruise tourists to grown next year," she noted.

According to current forecasts, 300 ship visits bringing in more than 500,000 tourists are expected in Tallinn next season, she added.
