The launch of Estonia's e-Tax Board will apparently be delayed until the second half of 2018, partially as a result of the tax changes planned by the new coalition government.

The Estonian Tax and Customs Board is currently in a wait-and-see state as regards to the plans of the formally yet unconfirmed new government coalition, Evelyn Liivamägi, head of the Tax Board's Department for Taxes, said at a PricewaterhouseCoopers tax conference in Tallinn on Thursday.

"We are waiting to see in what direction we must start moving," she said

Liivamagi noted that the development of the e-Tax Board was currently in a stage wherein the "groundwork must be replaced without upsetting the building," noting that there were some 200 different applications involved in the system.

Liivamägi said that the creation of the new system did not automatically mean that the Tax and Customs Board would receive more taxpayer data. "Not that we like it, but let's be realistic — who would like to give out more data still? We would rather be dealing with the data that we have today — considering whether something could be forgone and existing data put to better use," said the tax department head.

Daily Eesti Päevaleht had reported in April that building the new e-Tax Board from sratch would cost 18 million euros and that according to plan, the new platform, set to replace its 15-year-old predecessor, would officially be launched on Jan. 1, 2018.
