The Port of Tallinn's supervisory board approved the appointment of Margus Vihman as the third member of the company's board of directors on Tuesday afternoon. As chief commercial officer (CCO), Vihman will assume responsibility for customer relations and sales of the state-owned company that manages Estonia's largest passenger and commercial ports.

The Port of Tallinn had been run by a two-member board consisting of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Valdo Kalm and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Marko Raid after a corruption scandal was followed by a change of leadership.

According to Kalm, the company sought first and foremost someone who would be proactive in finding new categories of freight and operators for the position of CCO.

"What was a decisive factor in choosing Margus Vihman was his long-term sales experience with international companies, but likewise his good analytical skills and strategic and tactical sales planning skills," explained Kalm. "Likewise important were his active attitude and willingness to contribute to the development and implementation of sales strategies for the Port of Tallinn's various lines of business."

Vihman will assume the duties of his new position on a five-year contract beginning on Nov. 1.

Vihman holds a master's degree in international business administration from the Estonian Business School (EBS). He previously worked as sales director at Wolf Group parent company Krimelte, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of sales strategy.

He also has previous experience as the sales director for Northwestern Russia at roof manufacturer Ruukki, as director of Russian operations at Henkel Makroflex and as director of Hilti Eesti, experience which Vihman himself finds will benefit his work at the Port of Tallinn.
