At the end of September, a total of 26,245 people, or 4.1 percent of the country’s working-age population, were registered as unemployed in Estonia, records from Estonia’s Unemployment Insurance Fund show (UIF).

The unemployment rate declined by 0.1 percent compared to August.

The highest level of registered unemployment was once again recorded in Ida-Viru County, where unemployment was recorded at 9.8 percent, followed by Valga County at 8.1 percent. Tartu and Jõgeva Counties, on the other hand, saw the lowest levels of registered unemployment at 2.9 percent.

Manual laborers made up the biggest portion of the registered jobless who had been previously employed, accounting for 21 percent of the total of such persons, with service and sales personnel accounting for 18 and skilled workers and craftsmen for 17 percent of the same.

The UFIF received fewer new job offers during September than in August, however the number of offers still exceeded those received last September by 26 percent; new job offers numbered 5,050 and the number of jobs available via the unemployment fund totaled 10,353. During September, 3,240 people, including 434 persons with reduced capacity for work, found a job or started a business with help from the UIF.

Unemployment insurance benefit recipients numbered 10,456, making up 34 percent of the registered unemployed. The average benefit per calendar month was 431 euros and the total sum disbursed across the country was approximately four million euros. The basic unemployment allowance of 137 euros per month was paid to 6,727 persons, 22 percent of the total number of registered jobless.
