EU chief transport official stresses importance of carrying out Rail Baltic plans
Henrik Hololei, the European Commission's Director-General for Mobility and Transport, stressed the importance of carrying out the plans and obligations of the three Baltic States taking part in building high-speed railway Rail Baltic.
"It is important not to forget that the most important thing is not allocating money, but making sure that construction is launched and brings new quality," Hololei told BNS on Monday.
"Talks between the Baltic countries are always full of challenges, but they still always manage to find common ground," said Hololei, adding that now that money has been allocated and preparations begun, the project must be carried out.
The European Commission decided in June to allocat 202 million euros to the Rail Baltic project.
According to Hololei, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have the readiness needed to move forward with the project.
