Last week Taxify started its operation in Kenya's capital city of Nairobi, where 400 licensed taxy drivers of the Kenya Taxi Cab Association now use the platform.

“There was a great deal of interest coming from the Kenyan market. There is a large population of local taxi drivers who want to expand their services with technology,” Taxify co-founder Martin Villig said in an interview with Allafrica.com.

Kenya is Taxify's second market in Africa, after it entered South Africa in Johannesburg and Cape Town earlier. Taxify stated that it only worked with existing taxi companies and fleets as opposed to independent drivers, arguing that this would make for a better customer experience and better service for its clients.

Taxify was set up in 2013 in Estonia. They operate in 11 countries.
