The supervisory board of the North Estonia Medical Center (PERH) has appointed Agris Peedu, deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Finance for administrative policy, as the new CEO of the biggest hospital in Northern Estonia.

"Selecting the new director has been a long process and we had several candidates on the table," Marika Priske, interim director of the PERH Supervisory Board, told BNS. "Even though Agris Peedu is not directly a representative of the field of medicine, as long-term member of the supervisory board he possesses necessary experience and a strong desire to do this work."

Priske pointed out that Peedu's candidacy was also supported by hospital staff and managers as well.

In al, 15 applications were filed in the competition to fill the position of CEO of PERH.

Former CEO charged with accepting bribes

The Office of the Prosecutor General has forwarded to court a criminal case in which the former chief executive, catering chief and IT director of PERH each stand accused of economic crimes.

According to the statement of charges, former CEO Tõnis Allik repeatedly accepted bribes in return for ensuring that the company charged in the same case could continue to provide catering services to the hospital over years.

Allik resigned as CEO in mid-June.
