Businessman connected to Center Party suspect in illegal donation and graft case
Businessman Paavo Pettai is suspected to have falsified documents as well as helped to make a large illegal donation to the Center Party. The suspicion include Pettai having helped arranging it, daily Postimees reported on Friday.
Steven-Hristo Evestus of the Office of the Prosecutor General told the paper that Pettai had been questioned as a suspect by the Internal Security Service (ISS) in March. The suspicions of the ISS included the falsification of documents, submitting incorrect information, and using falsified documents.
Evestus said that the investigation was connected to a large illegal donation to the Center Party. Pettai is suspected of having assisted both the arrangement and the acceptance of the donation. The same episode is connected to a graft case currently investigated.
According to Evestus, the Public Prosecutor's Office will forward all evidence collected during the preliminary investigation to the defending counsel next week.
Pettai refused to comment, Postimees reported.
