The State Forest Management Centre (RMK) will be undergoing a massive restructuring beginning in July, including the liquidation of smaller regional structural units, which will in turn leave tens of workers without a job this summer.

RMK’s management board is expected to make its final decisions this month regarding how and where the forest management service can downsize, reported Estonian daily Eesti Päevaleht (link in Estonian).

According to Chairman of the Management Board of RMK Aigar Kallas, they can begin discussing plans more exactly once the proposed changes have been fully prepared for and implemented, but noted that emphasis would be on the improved planning and internal review of the service’s forest management.

Nearly half of all RMK employees currently work in the forestry sector, of which 191 were laborers as of the beginning of 2016.

According to Kallas, the total number of expected layoffs at RMK this summer is in the 20-30 range.
