Lithuanian airline Transaviabaltica, whose Kuressaare-Tallinn route will begin operation on June 20, would like to utilize the same 19-seater Jetstream-3200 that AS Avies flew between the Western Estonian islands and the mainland for its new route.

Saare County Secretary Jaan Leivategija told local daily Meie Maa (link in Estonian) that the owner of the airplane confirmed that the same Jetstream was rented by Avies for use until January 15.

According to Leivategija, the Estonian Civil Aviation Administration (ECAA) inspected all aircraft in use by Avies at the end of last year and did not identify any issues with them.

On April 1 of this year, the ECAA suspended bankrupt domestic carrier Avies’ air operator’s certificate (AOC) for six months or until able to rectify cited violations after partially failing to meet requirements guaranteeing compliance with aviation safety standards. While its AOC is suspended, Avies is prohibited from operating any flights whatsoever.

“In Avies’ case, the problem was not with the plane, but rather with the operation of the business,” explained Leivategija. “Its flight safety and flight control paperwork was not in order.”

Tickets for the new Kuressaare-Tallinn route operated by Transaviabaltika will go on sale this Thursday; the agreed-upon one way price will be 26 euros.
