Enterprise Estonia (EAS) is interested in turning the derelict Linnahall building in central Tallinn into a modern conference center, but a political deal between the city and the government is needed first.
Head of marketing at EAS, Ott Sarapuu, said the location of Linnahall, a huge venue built for the 1980 Olympic games abandoned since 2009, is excellent.
“Hotels are just a short walk away and it is very accessible. A renovated Linnahall would give the area a positive impulse,” Sarapuu said.
He said the city is interested in EAS's project to turn it into a conference center, but a political deal is needed to lauch the project. The city had hoped a group of US investor would take the building off their hands, but that failed to materialize and the site is still on sale.
“It is imperative that if we build a conference center in Tallinn, it must be very good. The cost could be between 40-60 million euros,” he said.
