Green Energy Contract Proves Unpopular
Only 0.6 percent of Eesti Energia customers have opted for the company's green energy contract, which provides power wholly from renewable sources but comes with a slightly higher price tag.
That percentage accounts for 2,500 out of 418,000 customers that have signed with the state-owned power company, which has taken a majority share in the market since it was deregulated in January, reported uudised.err.ee.
A year-long green energy contract is about 3 percent more expensive than the standard package. The package mainly relies on wind power, which accounts for roughly a third of renewable energy production in Estonia.
Renewable energy constituted 14.9 percent of Estonia's gross power consumption last year.
