ATMs Shut Down as Euro Day Approaches
Escorted by police, security companies will begin loading 800 ATMs throughout Estonia with fresh euros on the evening of December 30.
The currency swap will continue from the end of the business day on December 30 until the following day at 19:00. Once ATMs are loaded with euros, they will be shut down one by one until the first minutes of the new year.
A small number of ATMs managed by Sampo and Nordea banks will be continue distributing Estonian kroons until late in the evening of December 31.
If everything goes as planned, euros will be ready for the taking from ATMs in the first minutes of 2011.
