Kadastik: Room for Only One Daily (2)
Mart Kadastik, the CEO of Eesti Meedia, which controls the daily newspaper Postimees, said there is only room for one quality-orientated daily in Estonia, and Eesti Päevaleht will only survive as long as its owner Ekspress Group keeps subsidizing it.
Speaking on an ETV interview program on Thursday evening, Kadastik, who recently lead the management buy-out of Eesti Meedia, said that Finland, Sweden and Norway have not managed to keep two dailies afloat, and Estonia's market is far smaller.
He said that the digital market offers publishers a way out of printed press.
Postimees sales figures are not a priority for Eesti Meedia, Kadastik said, as its printing house is their earner, drawing business from outside of Estonia as well.
