Estonian Air Suspends High-Flying Voucher Campaign
A campaign to sell discounted gift vouchers for Estonian Air flights has proved too popular for the airline to handle - it halted sales halfway through the campaign period, a move that has led to friction with the sales agent and customers.
The vouchers, which were worth 64 euros but cost only 38 euros, were being sold via the cherry.ee website under an agreement with the airline.
Customers were given the impression that the gift cards were to be sold in unlimited quantities, but at 18:00 on December 14, the airline shut down the online sales mechanism after 6,520 certificates were bought up for a total of 250,000 euros, e24.ee reported.
Priit Tomp, head of the cherry.ee site, said that Estonian Air's decision to limit the sales was completely unexpected.
"Before the campaign started, cherry.ee signed an agreement with Estonian Air that excludes the possibility of limiting the sale of vouchers. However, halfway through the campaign Estonian Air decided otherwise. At the same time, negotiations between cherry.ee, the airline's marketing department and chairman of Estonian Air have not borne fruit," said Tomp.
Several customers who missed out on the voucher sale have already filed complaints with the Consumer Protection Board.
