Äripäev's Rich List Examined
The business daily Äripäev recently put Oleg Ossinovski at the top of its annual list of the 500 richest people in Estonia. ERR News took a closer look at the rest of the list.
The combined fortunes of all those on list amounted to 10.2 billion euros, an increase of one billion from the previous year, the daily said on Monday.
The net-worth threshold for making it onto the list has risen significantly over the last few years, from 3.8 million euros in 2011 to 4.7 million last year and 5.6 million this year.
The highest placed woman, in 12th place with 103.6 million euros, is Tatyana Liksutova, who is also the highest new entry. She is the wife of businessman Maksim Liksutov, who also heads Moscow's transport department. Äripäev reported today that, although Russian state officials are not allowed to own shares in foreign companies or transfer assets to their spouses, Liksutov has done both this year.
The second highest ranking woman, in 30th place, is Evelyn Tihemets, who is part of the Ernesto Preatoni real estate empire.
Four under-24-year-olds are the youngest entries on the list, all heirs to their respective fathers' fortunes. The youngest self-made man is 26-year-old Vladimir Funtikov, who is valued at 33.6 million euros and sits at 72nd place for setting up the computer games company Creative Mobile.
Besides Funtikov, other IT gurus have also made the list, such as the founders of Transferwise Taavet Hindrikus and Kristo Käärmann, Zeroturnaround's CEO Jevgeni Kabanov and Click & Grow heads Helen Rägo and Mattias Lepp. Of the 92 new entries on Äripäev's current list, the most (14) came from the IT sector.
