Estonia Bucking the Trend in New Car Sales
The first six months of 2013 saw 15.2 percent more new vehicles sold in Estonia compared to the same period a year earlier, the opposite of the trend seen in the Baltics and most European countries.
New car sales in Latvia fell by 6 percent and in Lithuania 3.1 percent, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association said on its website.
Combined figures for the EU show a decrease of 6.6 percent in the first six months, led in volumes by Germany (-8.1 percent or 132,000 fewer cars sold), France (-11.2 percent or 117,000) and the Netherlands (-36.0 percent or 120,000).
Besides Estonia, only the UK (+10.0 %), Denmark (+9.0 percent), Portugal (+2.9 percent) and Belgium (+1.7 percent) managed to show any growth.
Since the beginning of January, 10,282 new cars were sold in Estonia.
