Tallink Buys Ship From Competitor Viking
Passenger ferry company Tallink has agreed to buy the ferry Isabella for 30 million euros from direct competitor Viking Line.
The Finnish-owned Viking Line said in a press release today that the sale is part of the company’s long-term strategy, and that it has commissioned a replacement ship, which began operating in January.
The Isabella will replace Tallink’s smaller and older ferry, the 1,750-passenger Silja Festival, on the Riga-Stockholm line.
Tallink's newly-acquired ship was built in 1989 and can transport nearly 2,500 people.
