Car Sales Increased 10% in 2012
According to figures from the Estonian Road Administration, 18,500 new vehicles were sold in the country in 2012 - a 10 percent increase from the previous year's total.
AMTEL, the Union of Estonian Car Sales and Services Enterprises, commented that at Estonia's economic level, a maximum sale of 20,000 cars is possible.
The best selling models last year were the Toyota Avensis, Škoda Octavia and Nissan's Quashqai - the same top three as in 2011, although in different order.
Estonian car buyers' preferences are leaning towards more efficient vehicles, with 32 percent choosing small, family vehicles, according to AMTEL
“Size and power of the car has ceased to be a sales argument. It is more likely that buyers of vehicles will compare fuel costs and other operating qualities, along with sales conditions,” said the union.
Altogether, 28,000 cars were registered with the Road Administration last year, bringing the total number of registered vehicles in Estonia to over 600,000.
