Newspaper Sales Down from 2009
Numbers published by the Newspaper Association show a downward trend in circulation.
Last month, Postimees was still the largest national daily. With a circulation of 56,100, circulation shrunk by 800 compared with the same month last year. The circulation of the other major daily, Eesti Päevaleht, fell by 1500 to 29,800, and business daily Äripäev was down by 2200 to 12,200.
The tabloid, Õhtuleht, shrunk by 700 to 55,100.
Reaching 42,600 with an extra 600 copies, Maaleht became the only weekly to increase its circulation this year. The figure for Eesti Ekspress dwindled to 32,000, down 3,200 compared with August 2009.
The heyday of newspaper publishing in Estonia appears to have been in 2007, with the circulation of Postimees peaking at nearly 69,000, Õhtuleht's at 65,000, Eesti Ekspress's 47,000, Maaleht's 45,000, Eesti Päevaleht's 40,000 and Äripäev's 26,000.
