Businesses Enjoy Livelier Activity
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) became more active last year, according to data from Swedbank.
Bank card transactions increased by 14 percent and savings by 13 percent among SMEs.
Since costs per transaction are determined by the volume of transactions, increased activity has lowered commission for bank card payments.
More businesses are also accepting card payments. "After the euro transition, more people are paying by card, partly to keep spending under control, and offering that service creates more business opportunities," said Robert Kitt, Swedbank Estonia's head of corporate banking.
“Most of the major taxi companies now have card payment terminals installed in their cars and you no longer have to pay in cash at the local barbershop."
