What to do with your Estonian Air ticket?
Estonian national airline Estonian Air ceased operation on Sunday, following a ruling by the European Commission that the 2011 state bail-out gave the carrier an unfair competition edge. Those who have purchased a ticket to one of its flights should take the following course of actions.
Those who have a ticket booked for today or tomorrow, November 9-10, will be given a replacement flight. The new booking confirmation will be sent via an SMS or an e-mail. Those who have not received a confirmation six hours before the departure, are asked to call +372 626 6234 or send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Replacement flights will be offered to passengers to the destination point and back within the whole route, who have purchased a ticket through Estonian Air or travel agency (airline ticket number begins with the code 960).
Tickets for Estonian Air flights purchased through other airlines (ticket number does not start with 960) will also continue to be valid. The airline who sold the ticket will offer at least a refund for the ticket, but is very likely to offer a replacement flight.
Passengers who have bought tickets from Estonian Air to flights that depart on Wednesday or later, will get a refund. Flights are not rebooked, so all passenger will have to purchase a new ticket.
The compensation for tickets will begin on December 11. Applications can be submitted via estonian-air.ee until February 8, 2016.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication estimated that they need to reimburse around 20,000 tickets. It might take up to three months to complete the process.
Tickets bought through other airlines will continue to be valid, and like those for the near future, are likely to be rebooked, or at least refunded.
