Average Declared Income Up 7% in 2012
The average Estonian taxpayer took in 10,428 euros last year, a 7 percent increase from 2011, the Tax and Customs Board announced today.
According to the board's statement, the lion's share of the income came from wages, with 509,258 people declaring a total of around 4.4 billion euros earned. Based on these figures, the average monthly salary in the country last year was 715 euros, a 46-euro gain compared with the year prior.
This year, tax refunds were paid on the basis of 77.4 percent of the declarations filed, with the average amount returned at 223 euros.
Just 3.6 percent of declarations resulted in the filers having to pay additional taxes, but the average amount payable was higher - 1,037 euros.
Of those who filed declarations, 23,915 - 4.2 percent of the total - reported receiving no income last year.
