SEB Backs Out of Joint ATM Network Plan
Following Swedbank, SEB has decided to back out of the plan to establish a Baltic network of ATMs, citing that the project currently has too few partners.
Silver Vohu, head of communications at SEB told uudised.err.ee that the idea of creating a joint Baltic network is technically feasible. Nevertheless due to the lack of partners, the team composed of Nordea, Sampo, DnB and SEB has decided to place the project on temporary halt.
"SEB believes that the project will continue in the upcoming years," said Vohu. “As the study of feasibility and large-scale preparatory work has already been conducted, the launching of the joint network should be fast,” he said, adding that Swedbank, which already last year said that it wants to continue operating its own ATMs, would have to change its mind.
In a joint statement, Nordea and Sampo (soon to be Danske), which already share ATMs, said that the development of the project will continue between the remaining partners, adding that SEB had alone reconsidered the project.
According to the initial plan, the project was due to launch this year.
