Tourism Competitiveness Ranking Rises Two Spots
Estonia is 25th of 139 countries in tourism competitiveness, two spots higher than it was two years ago.
According to the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2011, Estonia comes after Cyprus and is followed by Malta and Italy.
At the top are Switzerland, Germany and France. Of Estonia's neighbors, Sweden is fifth, Finland 17th, Latvia 51st, Lithuania 55th and Russia 59th.
The World Economic Forum, the International Air Transport Association, the World Tourism Organization and the World Travel and Tourism Council that compile the ranking use 14 criteria such as transport and hotel infrastructure, safety, political stability, entrepreneurial environment, state support for tourism and natural potential.
The ranking often does not coincide with popular perceptions of traditional tourism destinations. Greece is 29th and Thailand comes 41st.
