The World’s Bank latest business index has ranked Estonia 16th in the world.

“Doing Business” index, conducted by Washington, D.C.-based World Bank, measures regulations affecting 11 areas of the life of a business: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency.

Economies are ranked on their ease of doing business, from 1–189.

“A high ease of doing business ranking means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm,” the World Bank said.

Estonia ranked the highest in the registering property topic (fourth) and lowest in protecting minority investors (81st). In the topic of starting a business, Estonia ranks 15th, in getting credit 28th and in enforcing contracts 11th.

It is notable that out of former communist-occupied countries, Macedonia stands out this time, achieving a respectable 12th position.

The index was topped by Singapore. Eritrea ranks the lowest in the index (189th).
