Newly Opened €100m Overpass May Need to Be Rebuilt for Rail Baltic (1)
The Ministry of Economy Affairs said that the Ülemiste intersection, which opened to fanfare just before the local elections, might have to be rebuilt to accommodate the Rail Baltic track.
The reconstruction would have to take place only if a rail station is built in the Ülemiste area, with the state leaning towards such a route.
The ministry told uudised.err.ee today that they do not yet know how much of the intersection they will have to rebuild, adding that a number of buildings would also have to be demolished.
Tallinn's deputy mayor, Taavi Aas, said they did not take the Rail Baltic track into account when drawing up building plans for the intersection, which cost the city, the state and the EU a combined 99 million euros.
