Bombardier Sues Estonian Air
The Canadian aircraft manufacturing company Bombardier has launched a legal suit against the national carrier Estonian Air, demanding compensation for backing out of a deal to purchase its aircraft.
Ilona Eskelinen, a spokeswoman for Estonian Air, confirmed to uudised.err.ee that Bombardier had filed action in a Canadian court. She did not disclose the sum Bombardier is seeking.
“Our lawyers in Canada have asked Bombardier to send more specific details of their demand and after receiving the data we can respond,” she added.
According to Eskelinen, the contract to purchase Bombardier aircraft was not violated as it was conditional, requiring approval from the supervisory board of Estonian Air. The supervisory board never approved the agreement because Export Development Canada did not offer suitable financial terms for the deal, the spokeswoman said.
At the beginning of this year, Estonian Air decided to forgo Bombardier, opting for the Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer, instead.
