Electric Car Prices Drop Due to Lack of Customers
Car manufacturers Mitsubishi, Citroen and Peugeot have been forced to lower their electric vehicle prices in Estonia due to the sales success of a competing model made by Nissan and a general lack of customers.
The prices started dropping already last week, when the car dealership Silberauto reduced the price of its Mitsubishi iMiEVi from 36,000 to 29,500 euros, Postimees reported. This was followed by a reaction from Citroen, which lowered the price of its C-Zero electric vehicle by 5,500 euros, to 29,900 euros.
Kerli Maro, marketing manager of Peugeot distributor KW Bruun Baltic, told the paper that the company is also soon planning to reduce the price of its iON model.
As half of the purchase price but not more than 18,000 euros of a fully electric car is covered by the Kredex state agency, the cheapest “green” car currently available in Estonia costs 14,750 euros.
The government’s program, started last year, has so far only drawn 38 applications, of which the majority were for the Nissan Leaf.
