Every 5th Construction Worker May Soon Be Laid Off, Says CEO
Jaano Vink, head of the construction company Nordecon, has said that a fifth of the sector's employees may have to find a new job or head abroad in the next few years as the business slows.
In an interview with Äripäev today, Vink said that the reasons for the slowdown are a decrease in EU funds and the drying up of funds from CO2 quota sales.
Vink said the cutbacks will affect white collar middle managers the most.
He saw positive trends in the sector as well, with unqualified workers being cycled out.
“Hopefully skilled graduates of training schools, who are gradually dislodging the freeloaders, will also add value to the industry,” Vink said.
