GALLERY: Port of Tallinn reveals design of new domestic ferries
Port of Tallinn revealed the design of the four new commissioned ferries that will soon service the two main domestic routes between Hiiu and Saare islands and the mainland.
The ferries that are currently being built in Polish and Turkish shipyards will be pained in traditional Estonian patterns. The interior design is characterized by modesty and neutral colors.
“Whereas Tallink ferries are more representative of the Finns, we have striven to make these ship look Estonian,” said interior designer Pille Lausmäe.
Representatives of Port of Tallinn said on-board shops will sell products from the two islands and all ferries will feature special “Saaremaa” and “Hiiumaa” rooms which introduce visitors to the local culture and way of life.
The ferries are named after four Estonian mythical heroes. Orange Piret and blue Tõll will travel between mainland and Saaremaa, and green Leiger and red Tiiu between mainland and Hiiumaa.
The first ferry should arrive in Estonia at the end of July and the last two in September.
