Two large retailers in Poland offer range of Saku products (2)
Two large retail chains in Poland, Auchan and Carrefour, have introduced a total of 15 products from Estonian beverage producer Saku Õlletehas to their shelves since May of this year.
“The retail market in Poland, a country of nearly 40 million people, is definitely among the biggest in Europe and for Saku,” said Saku Õlletehas CEO Margus Kastein in a press release. “Making it into the range of products offered by leading retailers there represents a true milestone.” He noted that the 15 different Saku beers now available to consumers in Poland effectively represent the entire Saku range of beers.
The first shipment, consisting of 62 pallets of canned and bottled beer, was dispatched to Poland in two parts — in mid-May and early June.
According to the CEO, it took Saku and its Polish distributor nine months of work to get from initial contact to the signing of agreements and subsequent first deliveries to Auchan and Carrefour, which together operate more than 180 supermarkets across Poland.
As the Estonian beer market has been on the decline for several years in a row, export has become the main engine of growth for beverage producers.
“Saku Õlletehas takes part in several export fairs every year in Europe as well as in Asia, for instance, and this has put us in several new markets over the past couple of years,” noted Kastein.
Saku regularly exports its products to approximately 20 countries; exports account for nearly 50 percent of the beverage producer’s total output.
