A new e-service in Estonia will allow seed growers to submit data for recognized seed fields as well as plant variety breeders, representatives, and conservers to confirm seed fields for their represented varieties and submit applications all in one online client portal.

Seeds are produced on a total of 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) in Estonia, where nearly 30,000 tons of seeds pass Board of Agriculture inspection and are certified annually. Seed certification helps give farmers confidence in the authenticity, purity and seed quality of the crops they grow.

In 2015, certified seeds were produced by a total of 84 agricultural holdings.

The 2016 deadline for the submission of seed field certification data is May 16. Applications will be processed upon receipt of state fees.

The client portal, which requires an ID-card to log in, can be reached both from the Board of Agriculture homepage as well as directly at https://portaal.agri.ee.

The agricultural e-service was developed jointly by the Board of Agriulture, Nortal and the Ministry of Rural Affairs.
