Dancers Arrive for Jõgeva Festival
The first Women's Dance Festival in Jõgeva County - now just two days away - offered a taste of what is to come, as all of the dancers gathered together for their joint rehearsal on June 10.
According to Valdi Reinas, marketing manager of the festival, the first dancers who arrived for the rehearsal were from the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. The first run-through was followed by a "village hop," which only women are allowed to attend.
The main performance will take place on June 12, when around 3,000 dancers from 241 groups across Estonia will perform their repertoire on a stadium in the city of Jõgeva.
Some of the dances seen in Jõgeva will also be performed at this year's national Youth Song and Dance Celebration, which will be held in Tallinn from July 1 to 3 as part of the European Capital of Culture 2011 program.
