Nordic Aviation to scrap Copenhagen route
As a result of the changed competitive situation, Nordic Aviation has decided to stop flying from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Denmark from November 30. All customers who have purchased tickets will be contacted and their flight will be rearranged or they will be given a refund, the company announced.
Following Estonian Air's bankruptcy last month, competition levels in the Estonian commerical aviation market actually improved, with several regional airlines taking over Estonian Air routes next to the state-owned Nordic Aviation.
The Copenhagen route, for instance, that used to see 19 flights per week, all serviced by Estonia Air, currently has 40 flights, combined by SAS and Adria Airways on behalf of Nordic Aviation. The number of flight to Stockholm has gone up from 45 to 64 per week.
“There is no doubt that the arrival of SAS in the segment of Scandinavian capitals is good news for Estonian people, and will certainly bring new tourists here," said Erik Sakkov, the board member of Nordic Aviation Grupp. "In consideration of the new market situation, Nordic Aviation has therefore decided to stop organizing flights to Copenhagen. As flight connections with the city are currently well covered for Estonians, it is a great opportunity for us to aim our resources at other possible destinations to which Estonian people cannot yet fly direct."
Nordic Aviation is currently working on finalizing its summer schedule. Tickets to Nice and Split are already on sale, with announcements about other direct destinations expected before the end of the year.
Small changes will also be made in the schedule of Stockholm flights from December onward. The flights scheduled to depart Tallinn at 10:20 on Mondays and Tuesdays will be cancelled, as will the flight departing from Stockholm at 11:00. The flights scheduled to leave Tallinn at 21:25 and Stockholm at 22:05 on Wednesdays and Thursdays will also be cancelled. All passengers concerned will be contacted.
Nordic Aviation will continue flying to Stockholm Arlanda Airport three times a day on working days and twice a day on weekends. In consideration of the requests of Estonian business passengers, the early morning flight to Stockholm will be departing Tallinn 40 minutes later than the current 7:00. The new departure time of the flight from Tallinn to Stockholm from November30 is 7:40, and the return flight will leave Stockholm at 8:25.
None of the changes concern the schedule of Oslo flights: Nordic Aviation will continue flying there twice a day (except Saturdays) according to the current schedule.
