Estonians Like Beer, but Lithuanians Like It More, Survey Finds
A pan-Baltic survey sponsored by a Latvian brewery has found that Estonians rate second in the region when it comes to their love of beer.
The Baltic Beer Index, which was based on data from the SKDS public opinion research company, measured people's love of beer, how often they drink it and in what situations they give it preference. Estonia scored 51.6 points, slightly ahead of Latvia's 49.9 points, but behind the 55.5 points scored by Lithuania, NRA reported.
Likewise, the percentage of people who said they drink beer two to three times a week was highest in Lithuania – 38.1 percent – compared to 29.6 percent in Estonia and 22.5 percent in Latvia.
However, the portion of people who listed beer as their favorite drink was lowest in Estonia at 26.4 percent, while in Latvia it was 28.6 percent and in Lithuania a whopping 35.6 percent.
A separate study by the Institute of Economic Research this spring found that 74.8 liters of beer are consumed each year per resident of Estonia, equivalent to 12 half-liter cans per month for every man, woman and child in the country.
