Tallinna Küte to Increase Price of Heating
Tallinn's Dalkia-owned heating company Tallinna Küte has been cleared by the Competition Authority for another price hike for district heating. As of May 1, the rate for a megawatt hour will be up by 83 cents.
The current price, effective from January 1, 2012, stands at 61.94 euros per megawatt hour, to which VAT will be added.
Tallinna Küte produces 50 percent of heat in its own natural gas-heated boiler plants. The remaining half is purchased from the state-owned Iru power plant, Tallinna Elektrijaam and a number of smaller companies.
According to Tallinna Küte, the rate hike has been made inevitable by the the growth of input prices. Another reason is changes in the contract with Eesti Energia's Iru power plant. In 2013, Tallinna Küte will start buying thermal energy from the waste-to-energy unit to be built at Iru.
