BLRT Testing Wind Energy Partnership
Estonian shipbuilding and metalworking giant BLRT Group announced on February 28 that it has signed a deal with the Spanish firm Gamesa, one of the world's leading wind turbine manufacturers and wind farm developers, to explore possible joint projects in the Baltics.
The memorandum of understanding "confirms the companies' mutual interest in studying opportunities for cooperation," BLRT said in a release.
"For our group, it's a great opportunity to strengthen our position in the renewable energy market," said Kristina Arutjunova, head of offshore business development at BLRT.
"Our group has a lot of experience in manufacturing complex metal structures for offshore wind energy production. Together with Gamesa, we're also looking into other possibilities, for example, opening a production line of ground-based wind turbine towers," she added.
Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica has specialized in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of wind generators since the mid-1990s and has built over 170 wind farms in 11 countries, according to company data.
